DISCOUNT POLICIES:
It doesn’t matter if multiple sessions are for the same student or for different students (ie, siblings). If classes are for different students, they must be related -- discount does not apply if, for example, one student’s mom is paying for another child’s class and will later be reimbursed by that child’s parent. FALL 2009  •  10-Week Sessions
September 14 - November 21, 2009

Adults  •  Intuitive Drawing & Painting
Tap into your innate creativity and bring to life the images of your heart, mind and spirit.  Instead of drawing from posed still-life objects, you will gain inspiration from your dreams, feelings, thoughts, conversations, and life experiences, as well as from nonverbal interactions with people, pets and nature.  Somewhat structured, but lots of flying by the seat of your pants!  Fun investigation into aspects of yourself.  Be brave, dear one.  You’ll be in good company.  All skill-levels welcome.

Teens  •  Life Drawing from Draped Figure
The best way to learn how to draw people is to draw from actual, LIVE people!  You will learn the basics regarding light-touch lines & shapes, proportion guides, gesture drawing, contour drawing, mass drawing, visual comparisons, and using value to create the illusion of depth & dimension.  A model will be present most days, but when one is not, we will do other drawing activities that will strengthen your drawing skills.

Ages 7 - 12  •  Drawing / Painting / Printmaking
Students explore mediums such as graphite, pressed charcoal, vine charcoal, colored pencil, oil pastel, soft pastel, spray paint, ink, tempera, watercolor, acrylic, and screen printing as they learn exciting technical skills, how to brainstorm, and how to see in new ways.  Emphasis will be on contrast, creating depth, color experimentation, composition, hand skills, and personal expression.  Lots of cool mixed media projects!

Adults  •  Clay Handbuilding / Papiér Mâché / Mosaic
Learn how to work with earthenware clay and nontoxic glazes to create a functional hanging birdhouse!  Then, learn an easy approach to papiér mâché as you build a strong, solid animal sculpture.  Turn it into a mosaic masterpiece by covering it with glass and ceramic tesserae (tiles).  You’ll even get to create some of your own clay tiles!  Grout your mosaic animal when it’s completely dry.  All skill-levels welcome.

Holiday Gift Making Workshops!

No matter what your family celebrates during the winter season, handmade gifts are cherished by all.  In this workshop, kids make the following 10 creative, high quality gifts for important people in their lives: 3 well-designed and painted wooden picture frames complete with photos taken during the workshop, 3 block printed stationery sets (designed by the kids) complete with matching envelopes & ribboned mesh storage pouches, 4 hand-painted ball ornaments (fired and ready for pick up in 3 days).  Lots of guidance, ensuring well thought out designs and good craftsmanship.  Register early for these fun, productive workshops!

SPRING 2010  •  10-Week Sessions
March 1 - May 22, 2010
(Spring Break: March 15 - 27---Two Weeks)

Adults  •  Fabric Dyeing / Rug Making / Lap Quilting
Learn how to dye 100% cotton fabric using vibrant, high quality Procion fiber-reactive dyes and a variety of creative tie/wrap/fold methods.  Tear some of your hand-dyed fabric into strips to weave a beautiful throw rug on a simple wood frame loom.  Use the rest of your fabric to design, hand stitch and quilt at least one of the following: artistic wall- hanging, small quilted throw, pillow cover, or placemat set.

Teens  •  Multi Media Exploration
You have the freedom and flexibility to choose the mediums that call to you during this session.  Decide which skills you want to work on, and choose projects that, with guidance, will help you develop those skills most effectively.  Take your current artistic abilities to a whole new level!  Great class if you want to develop your portfolio or want to use this dedicated art-making time to work on a special creative project.

Ages 7 - 12  •  Fantastic Fibers!
Students learn how to dye 100% cotton fabric using high quality fabric dyes and a variety of creative tie/wrap/fold methods.  They’ll use some of their hand-dyed fabric to create a textural latchhook-style rug and an awesome human or animal art doll!  With the rest of the fabric, they’ll make a unique throw pillow from scratch as they sketch designs, cut fabric, hand-stitch pieces, and quilt the top.  Students will also print images onto paper and fabric using various printingmaking methods.  Emphasis will be on color theory, hand skills, good craftsmanship, and personal expression.

good craftsmanship, and personal expression.
